The Ocean Springs congregation had its genesis in the Biloxi Congregation which met at 212 Keller Place. The elders of that Church encouraged the establishment of the Ocean Springs Church in 1954. The original site of the Congregation was in North Biloxi in an old house and was known as the North Side Church of Christ. The original board of Trustees was composed of Bros. Roy Childress, Hugh Henry, E.F. Tandy, and Raymond Ferrell who served as the first Evangelist.
In April of 1956, the Church was moved to an old house in the City of Ocean Springs located at the front of the lot where the sign is located today. The first service in the “new” building was in July, 1956. There is an accordion partition and an antique lighting fixture present in the new building retained from this old house as a momento.
The present building was built in 1965-1966 through the efforts of our own membership. The director of the new building program was Charles Calton who served on the first eldership with George O. Fain.
The Ocean Springs Church of Christ is actively involved in missionary work in Africa supporting a full time missionary. The congregation in Vancleave Mississippi was encouraged and financed by the Ocean Springs Church much as it’s own beginnings.
After the Katrina disaster in 2005, the Ocean Springs Church of Christ supplied food and goods to the community, served as a central distribution point of supplies, mucked out houses, reconditioned homes, and helped displaced families return to their own homes. In addition, as a central dispersion point for donated funds, the Ocean Springs Church of Christ distributed nearly one million dollars into the communities of Ocean Springs, St. Martin, Gautier, and D'Iberville. We invite you to join our family.
